I can find the books and other materials I want and need all for free.
I've been working for the NYPL for nearly 16 years and each day never fails to prove to me how essential our branches are at providing an educational and invigorating FREE experience to all walks of life. (Here's to another 16...and more!)
Because the library gives me free access to books and resources, it opens the whole world to me, helping me transcend economic and environmental limitations.
Bronx Library Center

I learned how to use the computer at the library
I use my library every week - it is an invaluable resource to me and my neighborhood.
Freely available books and places to read - this is the one unique and most important of all the benefits that a society can and must provide its members, because, no matter what the cost of maintaining the Library it is cheap compared to ignorant society.
When I was doing research for an article on the Spanish Civil War some years ago, I was able to read newspaper articles from the era on the NYPL microfilm. The microfilm library enabled me to see a full page of a paper and read related articles that I didn't even know existed. Thanks NYPL.
The library opens the world for me to enter!
libraries have been an important part of our children overall learning experience
